Royal Delft was established in 1653. Today, it’s the only remaining original Delftware factory in Delft from the 17th century that still produces iconic hand-painted Delft Blue earthenware. Step back in time and into the world of Delft Blue at Royal Delft.

The museum’s galleries tell the story of Royal Delft from its 400-year origin to contemporary, present-day designs. Visitors can explore the craftsmanship in the factory, watch painters at work in the demonstration studio, and even take a painting workshop and create their own work of art.

The factory and museum are housed in an historic building with a charming courtyard garden that displays architectural ceramics.

Royal Delft & Vermeer 

Famous 17th-century artist Johannes Vermeer lived and worked in Delft. He inspired Royal Delft’s master painters who translated his masterpieces into Delft Blue designs. Shop the stunning Vermeer collection or take a Vermeer painting workshop.

Paint your own masterpiece 

After learning about the painting process, create your own piece of art. You can paint a tile, plate, or small Vermeer house in a painting workshop. After its glazed, fired, and sent to your home, it will represent a cherished memory of your visit (reservation necessary). 

Delicious Dutch lunch on original Blue Delftware

After a stroll around the museum, relax in the Brasserie1653 café with a well-deserved refreshment or a traditional 3-course, warm Dutch lunch. You’ll enjoy amazing views overlooking an historic courtyard garden, which is open all year round and features a lovely summer terrace.

Guided tours in many languages 

Individual and groups of visitors are welcome to take an audio or guided tour. It’s an experience to remember with guided tours in English, Dutch, German and French. Audio tours are available in 8 tours (English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese (Mandarin) and Japanese).
